ASFCMP notes President Trump’s statement on gold tariffs – awaits formal decision
Neuchatel, 12 August 2025 – The Swiss Association of Precious Metals Producers and Traders (ASFCMP) has taken note of President Donald Trump’s public statement on 11 August 2025 that gold will not be subject to U.S. tariffs.
“President Trump’s statement is an encouraging signal for trade stability,” said Christoph Wild, President of the ASFCMP. “However, only a formal and binding decision will provide the certainty the gold sector and its partners require.”
The ASFCMP emphasizes that stable and predictable trade rules are essential for the gold industry and for international market confidence. The association awaits confirmation from the relevant U.S. authorities to ensure that the announced measure is formally implemented and that the longstanding between the Swiss and US longstanding gold trading relationship can be resumed safely for all parties.
